build mode is a newsletter providing tools, tactics, and taste for product builders.

  • It’s created by the team behind PostHog, a platform that makes your product self-driving. It pairs all the context needed to build a successful product with agents that find opportunities and ship fixes.

  • In each issue, we share lessons learned, best practices, trends we see, and opinionated takes.

  • build mode is free and always will be.

Why build mode?

Thanks to AI, there’s never been a better time to be a builder. Being a builder is also accessible to more and more people.

But there’s still a set of tools and skills builders need to make the most of this opportunity. Things like:

  • How to build AI-native products (and agents) successfully

  • How to leverage AI to build more successful products

  • How to do the product engineering AI can’t like setting direction, talking to users, or deciding what features matter.

Beyond that, building a successful company and career has changed too. Startups and software development look completely different than they did just a few years ago.

Build mode helps with this all.

Who writes build mode?

It’s a team effort from the whole editorial team at PostHog, with specific contributions (so far) from:

  • James Hawkins, co-founder and co-CEO of PostHog

  • Andy Vandervell, editor of the newsletter and PostHog’s content marketing lead

  • Ian Vanagas, technical content marketer

  • Jina Yoon,

  • Charles Cook, PostHog’s “generic exec” and master of operations

With contributions from Edwin Lim, Cleo Lant, Lior Neu-ner, Michael Matloka, Danilo Campos, James Temperton, and more.
